Calf Running With Egret

Print Description

This family of elephants is on its way to water.  The adults do not make much allowance for the young ones and they frequently have to run to keep up.  Here the herd is followed by a flock of cattle egrets.  These birds are the elephants constant companions and rely on the elephants to disturb the huge numbers of insects that live in the grass.  The flying egret is “leap frogging” to the front of the herd in anticipation of rich pickings.
