Two calves
Print Description
These two calves look like twins but they are not. Twins are extremely rare. In all the years that the Amboseli Elephant research Project has been monitoring the population they have only recorded one set of twins. Cynthia named them Eclipse and Equinox and they are both still alive today and aged 26. In contrast to the scarcity of twins in Amboseli, in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth National park in Uganda, when the population was almost wiped out by heavy poaching during the 1980’s, the incidence of twins was very high. Calves like these two in the same family will spend a great of time together and will actively seek each other out to play.
